AHEAD of the 2019 general elections, Okowa For Real 2019, a political pressure group has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to be more united to ensure that Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa gets overwhelming votes for his re-election as Delta State governor in 2019.
Members of the group who were on a fact finding mission to Ward 5, Ugiliamai, Onicha-Ukwuani, Ndokwa West local government area of Delta State, yesterday (21/05/18) stated that the huge followership of members of the PDP should not be taken for granted, rather, be strengthened for the party to win in 2019. The meeting took place at the residence of a founding member of the PDP, Chief Ifeanyi Obi.
According to Chief Samuel Okom who led the team of Okowa For Real 2019 to the meeting, “we are here to know about grievances of members of our party, an individual cannot bear the name, all of you, democracy is a collective responsibility, and if we work together, it is expected that we enjoy the benefits of the success story together.”
“A leader cannot be a leader without followers and for the 2019 elections, we want to speak with one voice, we want all our votes to be for our Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa,” he said.
Chief Vote Nduka at the meeting commended Chief Obi for the leadership roles he is playing in the party, stating, “it is a thing of joy that your (Chief Obi) followers are united, they spoke with one voice and we want them to remain in the PDP, we will win in every election because, we are in majority, Delta State is home to the PDP, all your complaints will be taken to higher authority and we believe there will be positive changes in the next few months.”
Chief Ikechukwu Achi, observed that the people of Ward 5 are not happy because they have nothing to show for their support for the PDP, saying, “without carrying the people along, PDP will lose our Ward, there is nothing to show for the support of our people for the party, we have learnt how to mobilise our people for our party, but, there is no single road that is constructed in Ugiliamai by the Delta State government, no single political appointment in our community, instead, we are beng victimised for supporting the PDP; we have the support of our community and we are ready to address those wrongs if urgent steps are not taken before the 2019 elections.”
Mr Steve Okunima in his contributions, said, “we have been so marginalised, our primary school and secondary school are not fenced, our people are angry and we want to have benefits for belonging to the PDP.”
Chief Ifeanyi Obi assured the people that “Governor Okowa as a true son of Delta North is working for all Deltans, he is our own and we will support him till 2023.”
“We are members of the PDP, we will continue to work for PDP, especially now that our own is the Governor, I thank members of Okowa For Real 2019 for going round to see our members, your actions will unite members of our party, continue with what you are doing,” Chief Obi said.
Earlier at a meeting at Nkwo Square, Onicha-Ukwuani, Chief Aneke Ifemeni thanked Governor Okowa for carrying all Deltans along in governance, stating, “naturally, the people will always ask for more because, they were marginalised for so long.”
Chief Okom, also, assured the people that all their grievances would be channelled to appropriate quarters.
