Automobile technicians plan a million-man-march in solidarity with Okowa’s administration
In solidarity with the massive construction works and the development strides of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Delta state chapter, have concluded plans to stage a one-million-man solidarity march for the governor of the state.
In a statement signed by Delta state chairman of the association, Comrade Ifeanyi Abanum and Secretary, Comrade Ejoke Enaworu, the association commended the state governor for the good work he is doing, saying the votes given to him in the 2015 general election was not in vain.
However, the association has noted that it has unsuccessfully sought to have audience with the governor with several correspondence which met brickwalls on transit, and noted that the governor has done well for Deltans, insisting that the present administration has transformed the state capital and the entire state with his construction works and beautification programme.
“Your Excellency, we wish to thank you first and foremost for the good works your administration is doing in our dear state. This goes to show that our association and indeed all Deltans who surrendered their mandates to you did not make mistake in 2015. The giant strides of your administration is apparent and visible even to the blind,” the association said.
However, the association has maintained that Governor Okowa as its National Grand Patron is too far from it.
According to the state chairman, a father who wasn’t available at the time of need of his children cannot complain when the children refuse to run errand for him. The association maintains that it has on several occasions written and sought audience from the governor without success and that it has exhausted all avenues of securing a meeting with His Excellency, including writing through its National Patron, High Chief Chris Agbobu, to no avail, hence this medium.
In an open letter which was made available to journalists in Asaba, the association said it has always celebrated the governor as its grand patron and consequent upon that it has listed certain demands from the governor which if granted will make the association function optimally and productive.
The State Chairman said his office would want to brief the governor on its efforts in bringing the automobile artisans in Delta state together under one indivisible umbrella.
This is following the plan of the governor to accommodate all the artisans in mechanic villages just like the Asaba Ultra-Modern Mechanic Village along the Asaba/Benin expressway which is a state of the art facility.
However, the association noted that the development at the Asaba mechanic village cannot accommodate its members in Asaba alone, stressing that its members are well over 3,000 in Asaba and about 50,000 in Delta state. Therefore the present about 70 mechanic workshops is grossly inadequate in the circumstance, it is the request of the association that the remaining vast expanse of land be released so as to accommodate the technicians.
The association also said the governor promised procuring buses for the Association amongst other promises from the governor, hence the body said it will be good the governor gives them audience so as to get briefings on same..
While the association commended the governor for his fatherly role in Delta State, it has promised to continuously support the developmental goals of the present administration.
