Against the cry of greater part of Nigerians, a pressure group in Delta central, known as Urhobo Rebirth Congress, has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari be given the oppotunity to run his second term in office in order for him to complete his good works to Nigerians.
The president of the group, Comrade Ogheneochuko Stephen, who spoke to journalists after a meeting of the body in Udu, Udu local government of Delta state, said President Buhari has transformed the economy of the country better than he met it in 2015 when he came on board.
He argued that at the time President Muhammadu Buhari came in, the Nigerian economy was in red, occasioned by the recession, which he claimed is now gradually coming to an end, with Boko Haram battle that he has also tackled headlong, “infrastructural development spreading in geometric proportion across every geo-political region in the country.”
He called on the entire Urhobos, to form a formidable front and be united for their overall growth and transformation, positing that it is only in unity of purpose, one mind that the Urhobo nations could move faster and take their pride of place in the comity of other ethnic groups in Nigeria.
The group also used the medium to appreciate Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for doing his best to move the Urhobos forward, appealing that he should continue to use his vantage position to do more for his people of Delta Central which has been short changed in all federal appointments.
The group appealed to Senator Omo-Agege to enlighten the Urhobos in speaking their language fluently and as well to practice their customs and traditions so that it does not go into extinction.
He maintained that each moment the Urhobos are speaking to themselves outside or within their community using English or other languages, his mind is troubled since they could not hide their secrets without other ethnic nationalities knowing what they are talking about.
He added that Chief Omo – Agege should re-introduce that initiative of Senator Pius Ewherido who was about establishing Urhobo institute of advance studies for the Urhobo nation before he transited to join his ancestors, stressing that the Urhobo language be taught in schools and churches.
He also appreciated Chief Barr. Ovie Omo-Agege for empowering the women, but appealed that he should also appreciate the youths through youth empowerment programmes, explaining that these youths are those who worked for him during his election and it is the same youths that will work for him during the next election.
