Alleged N1.4b fraud: Group warns politicians against campaign of calumny against Nigerian Surveyor-General

A group known as the Citizen Rights Watch has warned politicians involved in alleged campaign of calumny against the Surveyor General of the Federation, Surveyor Ebisinte Awudu, to desist or face the wrath of the people of the Niger Delta region, saying the mischievous campaign against high ranking officers from the region is vexatious and wicked.

Some politicians had, last week, sponsored a claim through an audit report on alleged complicity in N1.4billion case and theft of public assets has been against the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Ebisintei Awudu, and his office.

According to the purported audit reports, for at least three years, included a recommendation that the OSGF should be investigated by the anti-graft authorities and that the accountant-general of the federation should constitute an inquiry into the accounts of the office.

But the Niger Delta based civil activism group, the Citizen Rights Watch, in a statement issued on Friday in Yenagoa, stated that though every public officer should be disposed to scrutiny, the sponsored indictment and removal of high ranking indigenes of the region would no longer be tolerated.

In a statement issued and signed by Comrade Eriye (Rivers) and Comrade Stephen Nicodemus(Bayelsa), the group argued that inspite of the peace and revenue contributions made to the Nigerian nation by the Niger Delta region, the high ranking officers including the suspended Chief Justice of the Federation, the retired Director General of the Department of State Security, “and now the Surveyor General, who is a Niger Delran and delivering on his mandate with list of achievements have become a target of wicked campaigns.

“The office of the Surveyor-General, which is an extra– ministerial, Career, pooling and self accounting office supervised by the Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing and the achievements of OSGOF during the period under review automatically translates into the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration because these achievements would have been impossible without budgetary allocations and releases.

“From April 2015, these achievements include but are not limited to the following , Expansion of OSGOF from six to twelve technical departments and at present, the OSGOF has Survey and Mapping Units in eight (8) Ministries where it pooled eight resident Surveyors and the Schemes of Service for Surveyors, Survey Technologists, Survey Technicians and Craftsman cadres were revised to conform to international best practices of Surveying and Mapping profession.

“And Craftsman cadres referred to a standing committee on establishment for further consideration, Memorandum on Five years period As-built survey of any Landed Property for proper Land Inventory and Planning in Nigeria, Memorandum on Sub-Surface Survey of utilities and Infrastructure within ten metres depth of the project site, Memorandum on the adoption of Photogrammetric and Remote Sensing Techniques for five years periodic monitoring of urban growth in Nigeria.”

“Memorandum on the Establishment of a National Hydrographic Office,Memorandum on the need for Telecommunication regulators and Service Providers to collaborate with the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation in carrying out As-built Survey of Sub-Surface Telecommunication facilities for safety and proper documentation and Memorandum for the OSGOF to co-ordinate the As-built and As-laid Surveys of Submarine Telecommunication Facilities”

The group noted that inspite of the achievements recorded for the present administration, some politicians are bent on executing wicked campaign to rubish and summarily remove the high ranking Niger Deltan from office, “we will not tolerate it anymore and urged the President, Muhammad Bulgari to discountenace the new and wicked tactics of dividing the nation along ethnic lines.

“We also note that other high ranking officers from the North, South West and South East parts of the country are left out of the mischivious and orchestrated campaign of calumny, “but the indigenes of the Niger Delta are targeted ,castigated and their contributions paid with mischief. We urge President Muhammad Bulgari to disregard such campaigns.
