Deacon Joseph Fafi, state chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state has declared that the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is weaker than the opposition party ahead of the governorship election in the state.
Deacon Joseph Fafi, who made the declaration known on Thursday at the party secretariat in Yenagoa during a stakeholders meeting of the party elders, said the weakness of the PDP will be the APC strength during the governorship polls.
According to Fafi, anybody who thinks the PDP will produce the governor of the state in 2020 is a joker and the APC members should be ready to work in unity to take over the creek haven seat of governor in 2020.
The meeting of the APC stakeholders, which was attended by the party governorship candidate during the last election, Elder Wilberforce Igiri, the former state acting governor and speaker of the state assembly, Hon. Nestor Binabo, former senator that represented Bayelsa east senatorial district, Senator Clever Ikisikpo, Former Federal House of Representative members, Madison Latino and Hon. Walker Okoroba.
The duo of the former governor and leader of the APC in the state, Chief Tomiperetu Sylva and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri were absent.
Hon. Joseph Fafi told the leaders of the party that the meeting, which was convened to resolve the noticeable division and miscommunication among members of the party, would be a frequent one to build the momentum to achieve the goal taking over government of the State in 2020.
According to him, “the attendance at the meeting showed that there is no major division within the party. What we have is misunderstanding in leadership of the party and lack of proper communication. The party has been moving and resolving the issues.
“We hear about lack of support from the leaders and we make bold to say that the APC does not belong to anyone but all of us. He is a leader and humane. Don’t base your membership of the party on your relationship with Chief Timipre Sylva. The party belongs to everyone and the support must be for the party. ”
Hon. Fafi dismissed the claims by some members of the party that the PDP has infiltrated the fold of the party through appointments and juicy packages, saying: “anybody who believes that the PDP will win the 2020 governorship polls is a joker. The PDP is weaker than the APC in Bayelsa. But for some reasons, APC members are saying away from taking hold of their destiny. ”
Some of the party members, who spoke at the meeting, including Hon. Famous Danumuaghan, Senator Clever Ikisikpo, Hon.Llucky Yeboa and Hon. Walma Okoroba, agreed that though there issues to be thrashed out within the party, “unity and peace of purpose within the party is needed to achieve victory for the party. “
