The police arrest of three persons in Twon Brass over alleged involvement in kidnapping and alleged armed robbery on Thursday triggered a new row between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Brass local government area of Bayelsa state.
While the police authorities identified two of the arrested suspects as Christopher About, 44 years and Peter Roadpower, 35 years old, they are both indigenes of Southern Ijaw but residing in Brass community.
Some members of the APC in Brass local government insisted that a member of the Security Action Committee in the local government area and known as Mr. Loveday Digighabofa a.k.a Sayi, was also arrested.
It was gathered that the alleged member of the recently constituted Action Committee, was arrested with questionable phone numbers linking him to kidnapping and huge sum of money in his bank account.
The APC members in Brass also claimed that a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as akada, working for the Action Committee member, was found to be in possession of unexplained huge amount in his bank account.
They claimed that the decision of the police to exclude the Action Committee member from the list of arrested members is allegedly dubious and allegedly facilitated by the local government chairman, Victor Isaiah.
It was gathered that the alleged exclusion of the Action Committee member was to avoid embarrassment following the criticism that greeted the dissolution and setting up of the committee. The chairman of the local government council allegedly handed over two suspected members instead of three to the police.
But the spokesman of the Bayelsa state police command, Asimin Butswat, who confirmed the arrest of two persons, said the police in Brass divisional command arrested two persons suspected to be involved in alleged kidnapping activities.
According to Butswat: “At about 7.20pm on the 18th of June, 2018, police arrested one Christopher About, 49 years old, an indigene of Ikibiri community in Southern Ijaw but residing in Town Brass and One Peter Foodpower, 35years, Akebiri-Ejwtu in Southern Ijaw local government area but residing in Brass.Investogation is ongoing. ”
