The internet and facebook are currently on fire following the appointment of three dead men into federal government agencies by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.
On Friday, President Buhari through his Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, released names of 209 board chairmen and 1258 members to man federal agencies across federal government ministries.
But after due scrutiny, it was discovered that three men who had died were among the list appointed by President Buhari to head the agencies.
Prominent among the list is Senator Francis Okpozo from Ozoro, Isoko north local government area of Delta state. Okpozo died last year and has been duly buried and forgotten by both family members and friends.
The burial attracted who is who in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are favourably disposed to the philosophy and ideology of Okpozo.
The death and burial were widely publicised by the media in the country. In the list of appointment, Okpozo, who was over 80 years prior to his death, was appointed as chairman of the Nigeria Press Council (NPC).
Nigerians have taken to facebook and pouring venom on President Buhari over his short sightedness or forgetfulness while some blame the forgetfulness on his age and members of his executives.
While it was learnt that the list was compiled prior to the death of these men, Buhari through Femi Adesina, his media aide, sent condolence message to the family of the deceased.
It was learnt that President Buhari disolved the boards in July 2015 immediately he was sworn into office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
A facebook user, Acholonu Emeka, said: “Someone out there is critically sick in the head. How can this happen in a country of 150 million living men and women? Besides, many are jobless. Does this imply that those dead appointed are better than the living millions? Please help me to understand.
Aduomayebe Adums Aghogho called it breaking news. For him, President Buhari is disturbing the dead who are lying in state of perfect peace.
He said: “It should be noted that Sen. Francis Spanner Okpozo died over a year ago and President Buhari did write an official condolence message to the Okpozo family when the sad event occurred.
“Nigerians behold our president o…. You would recalled his wife Aisha Buhari once complained that her husband does not know 98% of the people he appoints into positions of government. This further supports her claims.”
Emore E. Hope also said Buhari is clueless, rudderless, directionless, hopeless and a monumental failure. He now gives appointments to men who are RIP.
Beside Senator Okpozo appointed as chairman of the Nigerian Press Council, others are Chief Donald Ugbaja Board Member Consumer Protection Council and Rev. Chris Utov board member, Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Reseach.
