Buhari’s endorsement: IYC inaugurates disciplinary committee, warns against bias reportage

The umbrella body of the Ijaw youths worldwide, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), has inaugurated the disciplinary committee to investigate the alleged wrongful acts by the spokesperson of the council in endorsing President Muhammad Buhari for the 2019 presidential election.

The five -man committee, which is headed by Barrister Ayebakuro Igbeta, who is also the legal adviser of the council, was set up to consider the issues and recommend to the national executive committee of the IYC on whether the endorsement of President Buhari was done in good faith.

The chairman of the IYC disciplinary committee, Barr. Igbeta, assured the Ijaw nation that it will deliver on its mandate with good faith, sincerity and the professionalism that is expected of them, understanding fully the confidence reposed on them.

Members of the committee further affirmed that they understand fully the issues at stake and vow never to let Ijaw nation down, promising that the committee will deliver on its assignment without fear nor favour as it is poised only to champion the course of the council and that of the Ijaw Nation whose mandate they bear.

Barr. Igbeta, however, frowned at some members of the council whom instead of allowing the committee do its work have taken to various social media platforms to cast aspersions on council or any member of the Exco.

According to him, Ijaw youths should resist the temptation to bring issues of council activities to the public domain, as the IYC must do everything to maintain its revered status, reputation and integrity amongst the committee of ethnic groups.

The committee also used the medium of the interaction with newsmen to draw the attention of the public to certain media statements released by some idle persons wallowing in the euphoria of self deception calling themselves parallel Exco of council.

According to the committee, the IYC has only one Exco and that is the Exco headed by Barr. Pereotubo Oweilaemi, the public should disregard any utterance on issue of council emanating from sources outside of the Oweilaemi led Exco, and called on such persons to wake up to reality.
