Delta state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has rolled out the party time table in preparation for the local government election slated for January 6, 2018 by the Delta state independent electoral commission (DSIEC).
As strategy to shut out many people from contesting the election so as make room for the aspirants who have allegedly been pencilled down, the party has pegged nomination forms for N1million for chairmanship aspirants and N200,000 for councilorship aspirants.
While making the announcement to journalists at the state party secretariat on Friday, the state party chairman, Kingsley Esiso, said as ways to encourage women to participate in the local government election, nomination forms will be free for all female aspirants.
Though some persons argued that the N1million for nomination from was on the high side, considering the economy of the nation and that it might propel the chairmen to be corrupt after winning the election, the chairman said it was the decision of the party, adding that the money is for aspirants who are interested and not for members of the public or civil servants.
As if it is the decision of the PDP to decide who wins in the main election, Esiso said his party has appealed to all local government PDP chairmen to provide opportunity for a minimum of three female councilors in all the local areas in the state.
He listed specific days for the party programmes in preparation for the election, beginning from October 10 to October 20, 2017.
