An embarrassing video is going viral, traveling with high speed through the internet, facebook and twitter showing Nigeria’s inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a prepared speech even under assistance by a yet to be named man.
Idris, who has received series of bashing from Nigerians who consider some of his actions as unbecoming of his office, have capitalized on this action to unleash their latent anger on the Hausa-Fulani police boss.
The video that is causing commotion on the internet has been shared across various groups where angry Nigerians have taken on the police boss and released their anger on him for his inability to read a prepared speech, though he is said to be a law degree holder from a Nigerian University of Maiduguri.
The video captured Idris making a mess despite receiving help from a currently unnamed man who provided help by reading it to him as he repeated after the Good Samaritan, using the microphone.
The embarrassing video was shared on twitter by Voice of Liberty where the IGP was in Kano on Monday to commission the Force Technical Intelligence Unit.
In this exclusive video by Voice of Liberty, an embarrassing footage caught him struggling to read his speech, making multiple errors and unable to pronounce words.
An analysis by TheCable editors suggests that part of the video was doctored, though that did not cover up for his mistake, just that it was repeated over and again.
“I mean, transmission, I mean effort, that the transmission cooperation to transmission, I mean transmission to have effect, ehm, apprehend, I mean, apprehensive towards the recommendation, recommended formation effective and effect, I mean, apprehensive at the transmission of…and transmission and transmission for the effective in the police command,” Idris said
After several attempts to get his speech right, the IGP, struggling with his paper, apologised to his audience. “Sorry, I’m sorry please,” he said.
However, Ibrahim’s struggle did not end there. A man in suit joins him to help hold down his script, and even helped with the pronunciation of the words. But this didn’t make the reading any better for the IGP.
“All effective the transmission, other transmission, I can state without contradiction that I have commissioned what?” he continued.
“Over transmission of, over transmission of, over all kidnapping, armed robbery and other heinous crimes, I mean, ehm, commission transmission, recommendation transmission.”
The video has got Nigerians very angry at the police IG. Their anger is based on the fact that the IGP has failed Nigerians in many respects. His slow response to the armed Fulani herdsmen and his response to the invitation of the Nigerian senate coupled with his disobedience to President Muhammadu Buhari have altogether pitched Nigerians against him.
On three different occasions, the IG of police has refused to honour an invitation sent to him by the Senate.
The IGP was mandated to appear before the Senate to brief Nigerians on the killings within the country and the treatment meted out to Senator Dino Melaye.
The lawmakers got angry with the police boss because the IGP gave no reason for his absence.
There have been calls for President Buhari to sack Idris for disobeying an order given to him to relocate to Benue state during the killings by Fulani herdsmen.
