The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Delta state, Comrade Frank Ufuoma Esanubi, has condemned in strong terms the inhuman treatment meted to an innocent lady by one Mr. Friday Eluro, a former aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Comrade Esanubi further called for the criminal prosecution of those behind the dehumanising treatment meted to the lady in public glare.
In a press statement personally signed by Comrade Esanubi, he commended Governor Okowa for taking the first step in relieving Mr. Eluro of his appointment as special adviser on security, but noted that the action taken so far is insufficient considering the grievous nature of the crime perpetrated by Eluro.
Part of the statement reads: “I was only able to come across the provocative video on social media within the last twenty four (24) hours due to my deep involvement in the ongoing electioneering activities; and it is difficult to believe that such an incident could happen in this time, and age, and more severe actions are yet to be taken by the state government.
“It is indeed very sad that due to political expediency, the state government has deliberately refused to take the next step in this unfortunate saga.
“This has further vindicated our position that the over three thousand (3, 000) political aides recruited by the current state government were settlements to those it intends to utilize to intimidate, and harass opposition parties during the forthcoming election; the assault on the lady is just a taste of what to come.”
Comrade Esanubi called on the Nigerian Police, and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that the case is not swept under the carpet, and that Mr. Eluro, and his accomplices are brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.
He noted that when elected as the next governor of the state, he will put a stop to the current state policy where thugs, and miscreants are empowered in the name of being political aides to the governor.
Comrade Esanubi asked Deltans to exercise their franchise with a sense of responsibility in the forthcoming election by not rewarding bad behaviours from officials of government.
