Delta government deploys acting General Manager to THE POINTER as staff insist ‘we need GM among us’

Following the disengagement of the general manager of Delta Printing and Publishing Company, publishers of THE POINTER Newspapers, Bosah Iwobi, Delta state commissioner for information, Ogbueshi Patrick Ukah, has approved the deployment of Mr. Celestine Ofuani to function as the general manager of the company pending the appointment of a substantive general manager for the media outfit.

Mr. Iwobi has served the company for over 12 years as general manager where he made great impute especially in the editorial content of the firm. As he leaves the firm on Friday, November 9, 2018, Ofuani will step in to steer the ship while awaiting the appointment of a substantive GM.

Mr. Ofuani is to act in that capacity until the appointment of a new substantive General Manager as advertisement for the position has been made by the ministry of information last week.

Before his deployment, Mr. Ofuani was the deputy director of information (DDI) in charge of newsroom and operations in the state ministry of information.

The appointment is coming as staff of the media outfit have been opposed to the appointment of an outsider to head the firm, insisting that the company has capable manpower to head the firm and take it to its desired dream as envisaged by the state government.

Following the advertisement placed by the ministry for internal and external applications, the staff, last week Thursday, protested the development saying it was a ploy by the ministry to push their personnel from clinching the position of the firm’s general manager.

They are insisting that the ministry may have penciled down some persons for the position, hence the advertisement creating opportunity for outsiders to apply along with senior staff of the company for the position.

They are also alleging that the appointment of an outsider in the person of the outgoing general manager added to the challenges the company has faced over the years.

According to the staff, they are very much aware of the challenges bedeviling the company and they only could find solution to the challenges, hence it becomes unnecessary creating opportunity for an outsider who may be imposed on them when the time comes for the appointment of a substantive GM.
