Delta State Independent Electoral Commission DSIEC said that the commission is fully prepared for the conduct of the January 6, 2018 council polls in the State.
The commission headed by Hon. (Barr.) Mike Ogbodu (CP. rtd.) DSIEC said that it has always carried all stakeholders along in its preparations for the January 6, 2018 Local Government Elections.
The Commission urged the public to disregard the position of the Executive Director of a Civil Liberty Organization, Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative, Pastor Egedegbe, on the allegation that the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), has closed its doors on Civil Societies, as he further alleges “Blackout” on Civil Liberty Organization by DSIEC.
“To the best of my knowledge, there is no iota of truth in Pastor Egedegbe’s allegation. To set the record straight, since the inception of the current Commission headed by Hon. (Barr.) Mike Ogbodu (CP. rtd.) DSIEC has been carrying all stakeholders along in its preparations for the January 6, 2018 Local Government Elections”.
According to him: “The commission’s stakeholders, including the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Liberty Organizations (CSOs) that Pastor Egedegbe mischievously referred to in his press conference have enjoyed the warm embrace of the DSIEC helmsman, Mike Ogbodu.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership of various political parties, long after their meeting with DSIEC on 23rd October, 2017 expressed their support for Delta State Independent Electoral Commission and at a point, articulated their confidence in the processes put in place as they admitted that DSIEC has provided a level playing field for the election to take place, particularly as they extolled the good qualities of the DSIEC Chairman for carrying all stakeholders along.”
He urged Pastor Egedegbe to stop peddling rumours as the Commission has since released the list of twelve (12) accredited Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to observe the January 6, 2018 Local Government Polls.
He said: “Pastor Egedegbe, I guess, is crying foul because his organization did not scale through the selection process. All he is doing is the ‘pull him down syndrome’ which l think is not right as the same democratic ethos he is pretending to protect, is what he is indirectly trying to destroy because of his selfish interest”
