TO encourage Deltans to cast their votes in the general elections, all transporters in the state have been ordered to cut transport fare by half for any commuter who has his or her permanent voters card (pvc).
Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta State Council, Chief Obi, gave the order citing a decision reached at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of NURTW held in Abuja.
According to Chief Obi, “every driver in Delta state is to cut transport fare by half till Sunday, 24 February, 2019 for every passenger who has his or her pvc.”
“At our NEC meeting, it was resolved that we should encourage every voter by reducing transport fare by half and all motor parks in Delta state are not to collect any levy which we call matching from any driver to encourage them to fuel their vehicles and we have set up a task force to ensure strict compliance to the directives,” Chief Obi said,
He added: “we need to encourage people to vote, transport fare or distance should not stop people from casting their votes and this is our contribution as members of NURTW.”
Chief Obi continued, “we advise every traveller to make use of the motor parks which are located at strategic locations in Delta state, no one should board vehicles along the road for their own safety.”
He expressed confidence that there will be hitch-free elections, noting that Nigerians are well enlightened and will cast their votes according to their conscience and performance-oriented nature of the candidates.
