Federations cup: Delta Queens picks semi-final ticket with 3-1 win against Bayelsa Queens

The Delta state representatives in the Female Federations Cup on Sunday came from a goal down to knock out defending champions Bayelsa Queens 3-1 in a fierce and tension soaked quarter finals encounter.

At the Dan Ayim Stadium Owerri,The Delta FA defending champion went down one nil in the 3rd minute of play courtesy of a free kick strike from one time Delta Queens Player Shaeed Adebisi .

The early lead gave the Bayelsa Queens an edge over the Okowa babe who battled from behind for the rest of the first half.

Hope was, however, restored later in the second half when Ezeamagu Maryaan converted a penalty for Delta Queens who controlled the whole of the second half but failed to convert chances that came in between.

With regular game time on 1-1 draw, the game went straight in to a penalty and the Delta Queens Fc skipper and save hands Ihuoma Onuegbu saved two of the Kicks from Bayelsa Queens. A move that Gifted the Okowa babes a 3-1 victory after they lost two of their spot kicks.

Reacting to the victory, the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Delta Queens, Henrrientta Eriabor hailed the players for putting up a good defensive team spirit against what she termed an obvious plan of intimidation brought up by their opponent.

She thank God for the victory adding that the target for the team is to get to the finals.

“We give God the glory and i give it up to my players for not giving in to intimidation. They kept a leveled head, goid team spirit and got the much needed result.”

Also speaking, the Technical Advicer Coach George Enenetie said the victory is a boost for the team ahead of the start of the league.

” We are happy God and hard work keeps giving us victory.we are motivating to keep going even as d league is around the the corner”

With the Victory, Delta Queens drawn in group A alongside Rivers Angel,Osun Babes and Fc Robo in the Nigeria Women Premier League to start next month july 17th, have now qualified for the Semi-Finals of the Female Aiteo Federations cup.
