Noble Youth Mass Support Association (NYMSA), a non political pressure group has strongly condemned the spate of killings that was unleashed on three local government areas of Plateau by Fulani herdsmen.
The national coordinator of the group, Godwin Ochoga Onmonya, made the condemnation in a press statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the group was alarmed that no fewer than 86 lives, as confirmed by the police, have been lost, including defenceless women and children, stressing that “NYMSA condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing of civilians and destruction of property in Plateau state.
“We are concerned by the recent increase in armed violence against civilians and call on all political and community leaders to find lasting solutions to these conflicts,” the group said.
Ommonya also urged the federal government not to rest until these criminals were brought to book, taking cognizance of the fact that “We are at a loss how scores of people could be killed without any form of resistance by soldiers deployed to contain the security challenge.
“The relations of victims of these attacks need more than assurances and promises of tracking down these criminals,” he added .
Speaking further, Onmonya said: “We join Plateau state in sending our deepest condolences to the affected communities, and in the desire to see the perpetrators brought to justice,” adding that the attacks on Plateau state have shown that the federal government needs to review its security machinery in a bid to make it effective, stressing that the noble association would continue to pray for the peaceful coexistence of the nation for economic development.
