Niger Delta: Your call for removal of NDDC MD wicked, self serving – group tells
A Human Rights Advocacy group known as Niger Delta Coalition for Peace and Defence of Human Rights (NDCPDHR) has described as “self serving” and “wicked” the calls by some ex-militant leaders for the removal of the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC), Professor Nelson Branbaifa.
According to the group, the call by those who described themselves as repentant Niger Delta militants under the aegis of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, led by Pastor Reuben Wilson does not in anyway represent the voice of the progressive and peace loving stakeholders of the region.
The Human Rights Advocacy group, the Niger Delta Coalition for Peace and Defence of Human Rights (NDCPDHR),in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Nelson Patrick, said those involved in the shameful calls are those behind the illegality and fraud that led to the downfall of past management of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
According to the group, aside from the fact that these group of former agitators are involved in paid advocacy for the highest bidders, they were fingered in cases of alleged fraud under the Amnesty programme led by Brig. IGen. Paul Boro. Some of them are being investigated by the EFCC and are paid supporters of the PDP led administration.”
“Present investigation by the group showed that the self acclaimed ex-agitators’ call was influenced by the anger of delay and non-award of water hyacent job to them and their cronies. They forget that the present management of the NDDC, led by an experienced and educated Professor Nelson Branbaifa, would not succumb to blackmail and intimidation.”
“For the benefit of doubt and without repetition, the Professor Branbaifa leadership has commenced legitimate payments to deserving and qualified contractors without bias and party sentiments. The payment processes followed due processes and in line with President Muhammad Buhari anti-corruption stance.”
The group however called on the security agencies to investigate those involves in the inglorious sack and arrest them over the threats to shut down activities in the region as a deliberate ploy force and arm twist the NDDC management to pay them for work not done.”
