Human rights group sends strong message to new Delta police commissioner

The Chairman Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, Delta state branch has sent a welcome message to the new commissioner of police recently deployed to the state.

The CDHR boss, Comrade kehinde Taiga, who spoke on behalf of the entire members of the group said the group will give every needed support to the new police boss in his quest to maintain the enduring peace that the state has been enjoying and enhancing law and order.

Comrade Taiga requested that the new police boss should act swiftly in addressing the issue of illegal arrest and extortion going on in Warri and its environs and regulate the act of violation of human rights by men of the Nigeria police force.

He said the police should work within the ambit of the law and respect fundamental human rights as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria while discharging their duties.

Prince Taiga also requested that the new police helmsman to address the issue of over detention and collection of money from suspects for bail even as he looked forward to a successful tenure of the police boss.
