INC elections: Be just and fair to all candidates – Ijaw leader tells electoral committee

A renowned Ijaw-born peace, human and environmental rights advocate, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has appealed to Ijaw leaders, particularly the electoral committee members, to do everything humanly possible to give Ijaw nation a reputation characterised by justice, fairness, equity and non-violence approach in addressing fundamental issues facing the Niger Delta Region, particularly the Ijaw nation.

Comrade Mulade noted that the liberation of the Niger Delta Region from underdevelopment and marginalization rests squarely with the INC and other formidable ethnic groups in the region, stressing that Ijaw leaders (INC) cannot afford to fail in producing a formidable leadership, unlike the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) which has two parallel Excos.

The peace and development advocate who hails from Gbaramatu kingdom, strongly appealed to Ijaw youths not to interfere with the INC politics, noting that some youth leaders condemn, attack, criticise and instigate confusion in the IYC leading to factions in the Exco, due to selfish interests to the detriment of Ijaw youths development.

He enjoined the Ijaw youths to allow the elders, leaders and INC electoral committee to adopt a civilized and an indigenous democratic process in conducting free, fair and credible elections that will be emulated by the Nigerian electoral umpire, INEC, and other ethnic groups in the region, towards moving the Niger Delta Region, and indeed Nigeria, forward.

Comrade Mulade congratulated all the INC candidates and advised those who will eventually win today’s elections to run all inclusive and open door policy to create bonds across board and give peace a chance in the interest of the development of the Ijaw nation
