The Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide (IYC) in collaboration with Shell Petroleum Development Commission (SPDC) has distributed relief materials to flood victims as part of their corporate social responsibility to the people of Niger Delta region.

Pereotubo Oweilaemi, who distributed the relief materials at the camps: Ighogene, St John, Kolokuma/Okpokuma, Clusters-Gbaran, Okordia-Zarama, Kolo-Creek, Oporoma and Boma-Central in Bayelsa State on behalf of SPDC, noted that the donation was part of IYC and SPDC contributions towards the alleviation of their suffering which needed urgent attention from governments at all levels and the oil companies operating in the Niger Delta region.
The president called on government of all levels and the multi-national oil companies operating in the region to support and assist the flood victims, noting that the people needed help.
The president also called on philanthropists in the region to come to the aid of the flood victims.
Oweilaemi who decried the extreme neglect of Niger Delta communities by the federal government and the oil companies operating in the Niger Delta stressed that despite the enormous wealth in the region from which the federal government and oil companies are making billions of dollars, the people and communities lack the most basic amenities such as health care, good schools, potable drinking water and good system transportation by roads and air.
