Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former governorship aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has said that former vice president and 2019 PDP presidential aspirant, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku is the best presidential material for Nigeria in 2019.
Onuesoke, who was part of Atiku’s entourage to the 10th anniversary symposium of Late Sen. Abraham Adesanya held at the Muson Center, Lagos on Wednesday, told journalists by the sidelines that Nigeria needed an intelligent and an experienced man in person of Atiku Abubakar to steer the affairs of the Nigerian state.
He said although Atiku is not a saint, same way as other Nigerian leaders, stressing that in Atiku, there is hope and better future for Nigerians.
Onuesoke pointed out that one thing that made Atiku, the Turaki of Adamawa, stand out among other leaders is his ability to identify and recognize talent, competence and consistency on key national issues, adding that Atiku seems to understand Nigeria but somehow, Nigeria has not been able to understand him.
Onuesoke, who said he is a ‘an unapologetic Atikuist’, recalled that as vice president, Atiku advocated the creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta to fast-track development in the troubled Niger Delta region in which late President Yar’Adua adopted as a key content of his seven-point agenda in creating the Ministry of Niger Delta after he was sworn in as President in May 2007.
“Furthermore, as vice president and head of the Obasanjo economic team, Atiku Abubakar almost single-handedly headhunted the members of what eventually became an efficient economic team that designed and deployed mission-sensitive economic management policies and processes that enlivened the Obasanjo presidency and pushed Nigeria into the frontiers of continental and global leadership,” Onuesoke recalled.
He maintained that as Nigeria stands today, no other politician looks as prepared for the presidency as Atiku Abubakar, adding that he has been consistent in proffering solutions to the many challenges that confront Nigeria and Nigerians by continuing to air his views and make propositions on the various areas of contentions even with respect to all the geo-political zones within the Nigerian state.
