It was of blessings showered on Aniocha North local government chairman, Chuks Oseme, by motorists as the failed portion of the road along Benin-Issele-uku-Asaba express way was on Thursday fixed by the chairman Aniocha North local government area of Delta state.
The deathtrap portion of the road located before the federal road safety commission office along Issele-Azagba -Issele-uku express way that had caused accidents and traffic jam for motorists received attention as the council chairman mobilized the youths of the area to cover the big pothole with cement and gravel as palliative measures.
Some motorists who bared their mind during the repairs, expressed their kind gestures and thanked the council chairman for his quick intervention in saving lives and properties.
According to them, the failed portion of the road recently got bad to the extent that “we drivers divert to bush whenever we get closer to the hole, sometimes it causes accident especially for the drivers who are not familiar with the road and those who embark on night journeys.
“But today it is a thing of joy that a council chairman who received little or zero allocation has come to our aid by this repair.
“This chairman may not know what he has done by fixing this road. Let me tell you, a lot of lives have been save, even crashing of vehicles.
“We are the people plying this road, sometimes four times a day, we know the danger of this hole. In some areas, the boys will only sand filling the portion while collecting money from drivers but it is so here.
“We are also saved from the hand of men of underworld who take advantage of the bad road and clamp down on vehicles for operation
“May God continue to put leaders like this chairman in power so that people can rejoice and receive dividends of democracy.
“I don’t know him before but for this singular gesture, he is a good leader, you can see how people in the vehicles are hailing and praying for him.
“Off course you know this a federal road which people expect FERMA to fix. In fact, I don’t have anything to say, may God crown this man with success” they pray.
Speaking at the site, Hon. Oseme said this is his little way to complement Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s work in assisting the government and his people in order to save lives and properties.
The council boss stressed that “we must not keep waiting for federal and state government in all things,” saying as a “people we can do the little our resources can carry us and that would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the people.
“I decided to fix the big hole so that motorists can move freely and as well prevent accident.
“Yes, it is federal road but we cannot keep waiting for Abuja to come, we have to do the little we can within our power.
“It is our people that usually ply the road. Besides, the bad portion is in my council area and I must continue complementing the SMART agenda of our Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to ensure lives and properties are saved,” Oseme said.
