NDDC: Ex-Bayelsa security adviser faults Delta leaders over alleged cry of marginalisation in appointment

Chief Richard Kpodoh, a former Security Adviser to the Bayelsa State Government ,yesterday described as “misplaced” and “crying foul” the call by some leaders from Delta State that the State is marginalised in the appointment of Chairman and Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

According to Chief Kpodoh, though the issue of rotation among the existing states of the Niger Delta region is being followed in the appointment of Chairman and Managing Director of the NDDC, the call by the Delta leaders at the time when key stakeholders have resolved to support the confirmation of the appointment of the Acting Managing Director, Professor Nelson Branbaifa from Bayelsa state is ill-advised and an unecessary distraction.

Chief Perekeme Kpodoh, while speaking yesterday in a statement issued via email, said the decision on issue of appointment into the NDDC is the perogative of the President and such decision should be respected and those appointed supported to deliver the needed development to the people of the benefitting states.

According to Kpodoh,” the Delta leaders position on the issue of appointment shoukd be respected but it is ill-timed. The concerned stakeholders from Delta State and other states of the region have resolved to stand with Professor Branbaifa and ensure that the development expected is delivered without accrimony.”

“The issue of development in the Niger Delta should be the concern of all stakeholder irrespective of the State that produces Chairman or Managing Director of the Commission. In his message on assumption of office, Professor Branbaifa was quoted saying he is the Acting managing Director appointed to deliver the President Buhari’s planned development for the region. And so far, he has carried out his task with the fear of God and equiy to all benefiting states.”

“the Prof.Branbaifa led management of the NDDC is the round peg in a round hole. We want to thank those groups and stakeholders that heeded to the call of reasoning and ascribe to the need to support the call for the confirmation of his appointment and allow them to be focussed on needed develooment.”

“In peaceful and ammonious atmosphere, the Prof. Branbaifa stride at hitting the ground running on project execution and prudent financial amanagement will be achieved.I advised the Delta elders and particularly key stakeholders to continue in their support for the present administration at the NDDC to achieve deserging results needed by the region”

“Finally, i call on all indigenes of the Niger Delta region to remain calm and totally support the administration of Professor Branbaifa for equitable distribution of projects and empowerment schemes in line with the vision of President Muhammad Buhari.”
