Niger Delta youths thumb up for JTF commander over anti-oil theft strategy

Youth leaders, from the nine states of the Niger Delta region, under the aeges of the Niger Delta Youth Coalition for Peace and Progress (NDYCPP) have commended the authorities of the Joint Military Task Force code named Operation Delta Safe over the operational strategy deployed against oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the region.

According to the Niger Delta youth leaders, after a study of the performance and operational effectiveness of the JTF under the leadership of out-going field-commander, Rear Admiral Suleiman Apochi, they declared that they unanimously salute the effective and efficient leadership of the field commanders of the JTF.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State on Niger Delta Youth Matters, Amb. Kennedy Tonjo West, while speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa, said the JTF commander has been able to curb the perennial criminal activities of oil-bunkerers, pipeline vandals, sea-pirates, kidnappers and other violent criminals that have plagued the Niger Delta region.

According to him: “Clearly the operations of the special Joint Military Taskforce have drastically brought about relative peace and safety on the waterways and other travel channels and routes of the Niger Delta, thereby boosting business investments and other daily socio-economic activities as well as government and multi-national oil facilities and equipment which hitherto were targets of frequent criminal attacks.

“The no nonsense posture of the presence of the JTF alone makes criminally minded persons to behave themselves or be dealt with appropriately. We are not in a hurry to forget the turbulent period of the criminal attacks on oil facilities and pipelines spearheaded by the Avengers and other restive groups that greatly affected oil output productions thereby reducing our earnings in revenue projections nationally.

“In as much as we laud the gallant and untiring efforts of the JTF in maintaining law and order in the oil and gas sector of the economy particularly, and the general society as a whole, we pray the Good Lord to endue the out-going field commander, Rear Admiral Suleiman Apochi, with fresh grace to serve our nation meritoriously and excellently on his new posting as the Chief of Defence Administration, Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

“We would like to use this medium to canvass for stronger collaboration and mutual cooperation with the in-coming filed commander, Rear Admiral Akinjide Akinrinade, to sustain the momentum of success recorded so far and improve on it, we canvass for greater synergy with profiled youth bodies such as ours; who have been strategic in intelligent gathering and peace-building efforts in the region over the years.”

“Once more, we congratulate both the out-going Commander, Rear Admiral Suleiman Apochi and the in-coming commander, Rear Admiral Akinjide Akinrinade on their new assignments to National duty with optimism and God’s infinite blessings.”
