It was a battle of who tops group A as Delta Queens locked horns at home with Visiting Rivers Angels and came tops with a 1-0 win.
Delta Queens in the first half played the Visiting side Rivers Angels mostly in their own half of the field with the homeside goal keeper appearing more like a spectator.
The pressure finally paid off for the Okowa babes in the 45th minute when the Rivers Angels goal keeper Chiamaka Nwadozie fouled Delta Queens Oghenerugba Tobi.
The goal keeper had gone for a save and caught the player’s leg in the process, resulting to a Penalty which was converted by Maryann Ezeanagu to give the home side a much deserved lead in the first half.
The visitors came out forcefully in the second half but they could not break the home side who held on to the one nil lead to the end of play.
Speaking in a post match interview, the technical asviser Delta Queens, Coach George Emenetie, praised his team’s resilience in holding forth for the much needed three points.
He said the game at home against Rivers Angels was instrumental in deciding what happens in the group and sharing the point would have been heart breaking.
“I am very happy on how the game went. This is the league and every three points is very important.
“It was our first home game, the expectation was high and pressure was high too but thank God we had the win and held on to it.”
Also speaking, the goal scorer, Maryann Ezeanagu, said they will push on as a team to ensure a top four Finish for a place in the Super Four.
She dedicated the goal to the God saying its been a team work and they intend to do better as the league progresses.
“We are very happy we got the three points here in Asaba to go top in Group A”

With the Win, Delta. Queens now tops Group A with 4 points ahead of FC Robo and Rivers Angels on 3 points with a win and a loss after two games while Osun Babes is at the Bottom with a point from Two games.
