Following threat by Niger Delta Avengers to resume bombing of oil facilities in Niger Delta, chairmen of Gbaramatu communities have appealed to the aggrieved militants to sheath their swords.
The chairmen called on the warlords to maintain the peace and halt plans to resume hostilities in the region, imploring the militant group to adopt dialogue and let sleeping dog lie.
The Niger Delta Avengers had on Friday declared resumption on destruction of oil facilities in the region.
The group cited the insincerity of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration saying it has not been willing to fulfill its promise to the oil rich but impoverished region.
It also blamed Government Ekpemukpolo, who has been in hiding, for failing to live to expectation. The statement posted on the militant group’s webiste said it would start its operation any time from now.
Last week, emeraldng.com published a story that the federal government was sitting on a time bomb as it delays attending to the needs and requests of the Niger Delta people.
But worried by the grave consequences of the planned resumption of hostilities, kinsmen of ex-militant leader,Tompolo, had implored the militant group to adopt dialogue.
Chairman of Kokodiagbene community in Gbararmatu kingdom, Warri south west local government area of Delta state, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, who spoke on behalf of the chairmen of Gbararmatu communities, lauded the Niger Delta Avengers for the ceasefire declared months ago and urged that it should be sustained no matter the provocation.
“We want to appeal to the Niger Delta Avengers to give peace a chance and adopt dialogue because in most cases your actions negatively affect our environment and image of the region,” Comrade Mulade who is also an environmental activist, said on behalf of the chairmen of Gbararmatu communities.
He implored the federal government to fulfill its promises to the economy life base of the country, particularly the good and peace loving people of the oil rich Niger Delta.
