Powerful Eastern group demands rejection of APC as Buhari allegedly plans to hand over power to Tinubu in 2023

Ndigbo Unity Assembly, NUA on Monday, urged the people of old Eastern region, particularly the South East states, to reject the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2019 general elections.

NUA made the call after their expanded emergency meeting in Onitsha, Anambra state, while reacting to the revelation of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari has struck agreement with Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu to hand over power to him (Tinubu) in 2023 if he backs him to win second tenure in February 2019.

According to NUA, it has become glaringly clear that the party and its leadership do not have the interest of the Igbo people at heart.

President General of NUA, Dede Uzor, said Saraki’s revelation which has not been denied by either President Muhammadu Buhari or Asiwaju BolaTinubu has confirmed the fears of majority of Ndigbo that APC and its leadership have no good agenda for Ndigbo right from its inception.

The lip assurance given to the Igbos has been the force pushing Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha and former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, to support President Buhari, believing that Buhari will hand-over power to the South east in 2023 if they support him to emerge president in 2019.

But the weighty revelation by Saraki is causing go-slow in the South east fueling beliefs that Buhari was bent on using the Igbos to win his election and thereafter abandon them for Bola Tinubu in the 2023 when the presidency will have been zoned out of the Northern states by the APC.

The meeting where the decision was taken, according to Vanguard, was attended by the state chairmen from the five South East states,   including Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Bayelsa states, alleged that the plot was a monumental disappointment by APC and its leaders, adding that it has exposed the party’s  “deceit and treachery against   the people of Nigeria and Ndigbo in particular.

“We are shocked by this revelation which we can describe as a vaulting ambition that lacks merit. It shows ethnic irredentisim found in most politicians in the APC and a self-centredeness of its leader.

“We must also say that APC has no interest of Ndigbo and Nigerians at heart and we must reject them in 2019 general elections. There is no statesman or patriotic leaders in the party.

“We have said it repeatedly that a lot of people who talk about one Nigeria do not actually believe in it. If President Buhari and Senator Tinubu actually believe in one united, indivisible and indissoluble Nigeria, they will not be   imagining returning power to the South West so soon after Chief Olusegun Obasanjo finished an eighth-year tenure.

“We therefore call on Ndigbo to be extra vigilant, go and obtain their PVCs and join forces with other progressive Nigerians to vote out APC in February 2018 presidential election.”

NAU also called on Ndigbo to reject APC, and all its politics of unfulfilled promises, we should form and build own political future. The era of disunity and individualism should stop.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo should organise all Igbo submit to fashion out Igbo political position or agenda, the era of using Ndigbo as a second fiddle should be over for good
