The National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, NCNDE-A, has accused the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, of putting both human and material resources in the Niger Delta region in permanent reverse gear.
National president of the coalition, Eshanekpe Israel, a.k.a Akpodoro, made this known in a statement issued and made available to journalists in Abuja over the weekend.
He accused Amaechi of being selfish in the politics of the region, a development he noted has badly affected the growth and development of the people.
He cited instances where Amaechi allegedly cornered all the appointments that supposed to be evenly distributed among leaders in the region for himself and cronies.
The former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, now a pro Atiku Abubakar campaigner, noted that at the inception of the current administration, Amaechi forced Ibim Semenitari on the system to act as the acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and also with his hands in the appointment of the executive director, finance of the commission as if he alone voted for Buhari at the poll.
He wondered why Amaechi who couldn’t deliver his state at the poll in 2015 general election to Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC could wield such influence in the administration adding that Amaechi was the reason President Buhari is not popular in the region.
According to Akpodoro, Amaechi has been able to grab every appointment meant for the people of the Niger Delta under the Buhari administration whereas, Amaechi has no influence over anybody or group of persons in the region.
Akpodoro said the victory of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the February 16 election will put paid to Amaechi’s monopoly in the South-South geo-political zone.
Akpodoro who doubles as the zonal xoordinator of South-South for Youth and Support Groups for Atiku Abubakar, noted that Amaechi influenced the appointments of Dakuku Peterside, as the director general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA; Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala Usman; Acting MD, NDDC, Professor Brameifa.
He stated further that Amaechi was not alone in his craze for political dominance of the Delta region but has his accomplices in the presidency whom he said promotes his interests.
Pointedly, Akpodoro said with all the appointments initiated by Amaechi and that which he is holding that the Buhari administration handed the entire region to the politician and this, he noted, impedes the desired progress in the Delta region.
“How can only one man whose crowd if any, does not go beyond his Ikwere ethnic minority in his state be surrendered entire region?
“This is why the Buhari administration remains a huge failure that can’t drive growth and development in our region.
“The people of the Niger Delta region are subjugated to Amaechi by the dictatorial regime of Buhari for no reason and it’s high time we resisted this inhuman treatment by voting out this bunch of failures and liars.”
“Atiku knows the benefits of evenly spreading appointments that would yield results.
He called on the people of the region to ensure Buhari doesn’t win any polling unit, noting that another four years of Buhari as the president will spell doom and disaster for not only the region but the entire nation.
