The senior special assistant to Delta state governor on intelligence gathering and community development, Mr Smart Yomi, has called on Deltans to emulate Governor Okowa’s honest and efficient administrative style in fast tracking development.
Mr Smart who disclosed this in Asaba said the governor has demonstrated an administrative style that has brought courage and hope to all Deltans, adding that he has also delivered on his campaign promises.
The maritime industrialist said the peace in the creek and what the governor was doing in the riverine communities in terms of rural infrastructural development was unprecedented, saying this was what some of our sons and daughters who had opportunity could not do that the governor was doing.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hopeful in the forthcoming elections pointed out that Warri federal constituency he intends to represent has three ethnic group which include Urhobo, Ijaw and Itsekiri, adding that these ethnic groups have long standing relationship for centuries.
Mr Smart emphasised that the Itsekiris and the Ijaws have so many things in common which could be harnessed to strengthen the age long good relationship and co-habitation between them.
He opined that if elected, he will use his position in collaboration with stakeholders in the constituency to create an enabling atmosphere to attract genuinely interested investors to the area.
His aim is also to promote the well being of the constituents, to bring what belongs to them at the federal level and be used in such a way for the supreme welfare and happiness of the people.
According to him, his main focus in governance, particularly as a lawmaker, if elected come 2019 was to provide democratic dividends to the electorate irrespective of their positions.
While saying that there was nothing wrong in having many aspirants for the various elective positions as long as they have common purpose, Mr Smart, however, urged the electorate and aspirants alike to avoid foul languages during their campaigns.
“If elected as a lawmaker come 2019 by God’s grace, I will also ensure that aside attracting people-oriented projects as well as empowering them economically, I will also pursue vigorously the issue of youth education through formal education, vocational and skill acquisition,” he said.
He therefore urged party leadership to ensure fair and transparent primaries as that will produce credible candidates, adding that failure to organize credible primaries at all levels will lead to waste and will create disaffection within the party.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Monday accused the presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of running 18 unregistered companies and frittering away trillions of dollars under its administration.
