Prince Ned Nwoko, the star prince of Anioma land, on Monday night splashed N20million on athletes who made Delta proud in the national sports festival held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Nwoko, who is building a sports university in Idumuje Ugboko,his country home in Aniocha north local government area of the state, made the promise while hosting the athletes in his residence, otherwise called mount of Delta.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had earlier, at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba, made good his promise of paying one million each to athletes who won gold medals and N500,000 to athletes who won silver medals.
The event at the stadium was hair raising as Governor Okowa gathered all the athletes and presented cheques to them amidst funfare and loud ovation.
At the event, Nwoko said he would support the athletes in whatever ways to make them achieve their goals in life.
He said Delta state is very good at sports, hence it has consistently won medals in all events at the national level.
He expressed joy that he was hosting the athletes in his country home, adding that a time is coming the athletes would compete international levels.
