Wife of the governor of Delta state, Dame Edith Okowa, has said that the prayers of Nigerian Christians has contributed in no small measure to keeping Nigeria as one indivisible nation.
Governor Okowa’s wife said if Nigerian Christians have not spent time praying, one could not fathom where the country would have been by now
The governor’s wife spoke on Saturday during a prayer session she organised for all women in Delta state where they prayed for the unity of Nigeria, peaceful and violent-free elections, Delta state and peace in families.
The prayer session which drew women from many Christian denominations across the state, was held at the unity hall of Delta government house, Asaba, the state capital.
The Delta first lady told the women that irrespective of the ups and downs in the country, the plan and will of God for Nigeria will be done
“God has a plan for Nigeria. No matter what is happening, Nigeria will be one. It is the counsel of God that will stand in Nigeria.
” I’m not moved by what I see but by the word of God. This is the time to pray more for Nigeria,” Okowa’s wife said.
The Delta first lady who said the regular prayer session was instituted 12 years ago by former governor’s wife, Mrs.Roli Nere Uduaghan, who was also present, said women should allow the will of God be done in their lives.
She challenged women to be dead to self, saying if the will of God must be done in their lives, they must surrender their lives to God.
According to her: “We smile when we are bitter, you need to be dead. A dead man does not feel pain. We have become so dirty that God has bypassed us.
“Offenses must come but have a place in your heart to forgive the offenders. Lets come alive to Jesus and come out of sin. Dont allow God take his grace from you because of pride.”
Minister of the day, Mrs. Esther Edafienene, told the women that doing the will of God is a necessary criterion for getting blessings from God.
She told the women that a child of God standing on the will of God does not sin, adding that not all women are children are children of God.
She said: “God knows those who are his children. Anybody in pre-marital sex or extra-marital sex is not a child of God.”
The prayer session which featured prayers for families, the church, Delta state and Governor Okowa, the nation and the general elections, had the theme: “Mothers Arise, let your voice be heard.”
