The national president of the National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, NCNDE-A, Eshanekpe Israel, a.k.a Akpodoro, has narrated his ordeal while in President Muhammadu Buhari’s political family.
This was made known in a statement issued in Ughelli, Delta state on Sunday by the erstwhile staunch supporter of the president and now the zonal coordinator of South-South Youth and Support Groups for PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Akpodoro revealed that a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and his younger brother who is a director with the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, frustrated him out of his support for President Buhari owing to their greed, noting that it was the reason success has eluded persistently the party in the oil rich region.
Akpodoro reeled out all he did for the APC chieftain who hails from Ughelli council area but ended up getting his fingers burnt because he refused to tie himself to the apron-string of the politician whom he said has a rent seeking attitude irrespective of his limited political fortunes.
The Urhobo – born Ex-militant leader stated that after all he did in 2014 to ensure victory for the chieftain who contested the APC gubernatorial election that year and Mr. Buhari at the poll; while the guber candidate failed woefully, the president was victorious but in the end the banker – turned politician monopolised the benefits of the president’s victory.
He stressed further that he presented to the administration a better qualified Urhobo son who is a PhD holder and a veteran in the training of the beneficiaries of the amnesty programme of the federal government for appointment as the coordinator of the programme but later discovered that the ‘greedy’ politician worked against his choice.
He added that he later discovered that his choice was not good for the 2014 gubernatorial candidate of the APC because he wanted to bring in his brother who contested against the APC at the 2015 poll to become a director on the board of the NDDC and he achieved his objective.
Having achieved his desire of bringing a PDP turncoat to take the place of those who worked for the success of the current administration, Akpodoro, who doubles as the coordinator of Urhobo Youth Forum for Change, UYFC said, the politician turned the intervention agency to a family heritage where decisions were taken from his home.
He said the politician in so many of his shoddy deals in NDDC acted in connivance with senior officials of the Buhari’s administration to whom huge returns were paid in gratification and these he said can only reveal when the books of the commission were opened.
He charged the Buhari administration to tour round all road contracts awarded by the outgoing NDDC board and they will find out dirty details including hugely inflated costs of jobs poorly executed.
“How do you construct any road in 21st century Niger Delta region without drainages, this is what the executive director, project of NDDC did all through.”
He said he protested the development and that earned him “massive blackmail” by the agents of the politician including his NDDC brother.
Akpodoro said most appalling was the fact that they used a section of the media to blackmail and paint him in bad light before the public, stating that till date he was yet to recover from the wickedness perpetrated against him by his supposed Urhobo brothers.
This he said accounted for why he dragged the NDDC scribe and his aide to court claiming N3bn for sundry damages.
These and other reasons including the gross ineptitude of the Buhari led administration made him go into the Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s political family, an action he said he never regretted.
Akpodoro, who is a grassroot mobiliser, vowed to ensure the failure of the APC candidates at all levels in the South-South geo-political zone noting that he will never enthrone a government that will appoint members of the opposition parties at the detriment of those who ensured its victory.
“President Buhari insulted the sensibilities of those of us who worked for him. This APC chieftain while I worked for him, was busy frolicking with the PDP then and he was rumoured to have been settled by those who defeated him at the poll.
“Atiku Abubakar remains the best a nation can have as a leader because he has the competence, the character and competence to lead our nation. Buhari is a tired hand and we, the electorates, should allow him to proceed on his permanent retirement come February 16, 2019,” Akpodoro stated.
