A lecturer with the Bayelsa owned Niger Delta University, Ammassoma, Dr. Ndutimi Dudafa, and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Bibi Oweifa, were on Friday confirmed to have been abducted by unknown gunmen.
While the university lecturer, Dr. Dudafa, was abducted from his home in Gbarantoru area in the Yenagoa local government area at about 8pm on Thursday and taken away on a waiting boat at the water front.
Hon Oweifa,who is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and allegedly plot to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC) to realise his dream on contesting the state assembly seat, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in a commando style, at the Bayelsa state secretariat annexe one.
The family of the university lecturer, whike confirming his abduction in Yenagoa, appealed to his abductors to consider their victim family because they are going through trying times from the unfortunate incident.
The elder brother of the victim, Chief Ineye Dudafa, who spoke on telephone, said the incident is unfortunate, adding that the family is going through trying times from the unfortunate incident, stressing the family has been traumatized by the sudden abduction of the Sociology department lecturer.
Chief Dudafa said: “We are appealing for his unconditional release in the name of God, let them consider that God exists and free him. We are passing through a traumatised period because of this unfortunate abduction of my brother, I appeal to the security agencies to do everything humanly possible to have him release.“
Chief Dudafa also confirmed that the kidnappers have not opened means of communication with the family.
On the abduction of Hon. Oweifa,it was gathered that his abduction is coming hours before his intent to defect alongside hundreds of his supporters to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for today, 21 July 2018.
Bibi, an indigene of Bumoundi, in Ekpetiama clan, Yenagoa local government area of the state, is reported to have been kidnapped at around 3:30 pm on Thursday.
The gunmen were said to have invaded in military attires, overpowering his personal assistant out of the vehicle they were, as they made away with him.
It is now about 23hours he has been in the captivity of the kidnappers.
Until his kidnap, he was the state vice-chairman of the state peace and reconciliation committee.
On 11th July, Bibi Oweifa was endorsed by youths, elders and women of Gbarain/Ekpetiama, Yelga Constituency 2, as their sole candidate.
Contacted on the development, the spokesman of the Bayelsa state police command, Asimin Butswat said though he had received calla from some newsmen over the incident, “am yet to get the details. “
